After developing Shifter Cables, Shifter-Cable Bushings, Shifter-Base Bushings, and the original Clutch Master Cylinder Upgrade for the 8th Gen Civic we realized there was only one piece left that needed our attention... the shifter! We continue to strive for ultimate performance and reliability so we took our original 06-11 Civic shifter assembly and sent it back to the drawing board.

After countless hours of design, engineering and testing we completed a major overhaul of our shifter system. As a commitment to our customers, we are proud to offer a refreshed version of the most popular short shifter assembly for the 8th generation Honda Civic chassis!

Initial stages of the short shifter design involved culling through forums and talking with 8th Gen Civic owners, looking for the Pros and Cons of the stock shifter as well as other short shifter upgrades that were available at the time. This wasn’t the first time we’d designed a shifter assembly, so there were already a lot of features we knew we wanted to include in this unit. Among those features was an unparalleled level of adjustability, so that each driver could tweak every aspect of the shifter to suit their own preference. Ultimately, what we developed was a durable, versatile short shifter that is simple enough to allow an affordable price, so you can have your race car without eating ramen noodles for a month.

The shifter’s frame is constructed from TIG welded, powder coated, 1000 Series steel. The Dust-Gold anodized upper and lower rocker assemblies are now made of single pieces of Aerospace aluminum and feature custom sealed ball bearings to reduce friction. The new V2 shifter is 60% smoother than the original version requiring much less physical effort to row through gears all while being significantly lighter. Shift throw adjustment is achieved using two threaded cable attachment pins, meaning fine tweaks can be made to shift throw, allowing you to dial in the exact throw that suits your shifting style. Each attachment pin features a wear-resistant Delrin pivot cap for sturdy, quiet operation. New dual, zinc-plated extension springs replace the OEM style torsion centering spring for better-centering action and more direct feel.

The front/back throw and left/right throw can be adjusted independently and figures for throw reduction are shown below:

  • 06-08 8th Gen Honda Civic Si:-front/back adjustable from 80%-48% stock throw (20%-52% reduction)-left/right adjustable from 83%-47% stock throw (17%-53% reduction)
  • 09-11 8th Gen Honda Civic Si:-front/back adjustable from 87%-52% stock throw (17%-48% reduction)-left/right adjustable from 90%-49% stock throw (10%-51% reduction)

 

Beyond simple throw reduction, we have built in a feature that many 8th Gen Civic owners have long desired but never had: shift knob height adjustment. Our simple single-bolt height adjustment design (borrowed from our popular k-swap shifters) allows the knob to be adjusted higher or lower than stock (within a 1.5″ total range) with only a 5mm allen wrench. Now you can tweak the shifter’s throw AND knob position independently until the shifter functions exactly the way you want it to.

This short shifter assembly is designed so that base bushings are not needed, meaning there’s no need to spend extra money on solid shifter base bushings. The shifter is compatible with OEM 8th Gen Civic cables, or our performance 8th Gen Civic cables. This shifter will work on both the base model R18 platform, as well as the Si’s K20 platform.

    Now in its 11th generation, the Honda Civic continues to punch above its weight in terms of performance, quality, and reliability. With the ever-evolving upgrades and changes, we continue to learn, create, and develop new ways of improving factory parts. That is why our latest 5th Generation Short Shifter continues to set the standard for Honda performance drivetrain components.  

    Our newest shifter for the 11th Gen Honda Civic & 5th Generation Integra receives many upgrades, some of them include: 

    • Larger internal spring for reduced stress and improved return speed. Using a larger 2" diameter spring in our shifter serves two crucial purposes. Firstly, it helps reduce internal stress within the spring itself, ensuring it can operate effectively and maintain its performance over time. Secondly, the larger spring diameter contributes to improving the return speed of the knob after shifting. This means that the shifter mechanism can quickly and efficiently reset to its neutral position after a gear change, enhancing the overall responsiveness and efficiency of the shifter.  
    • Larger bearings for racing forces. Wishbone bearings, also known as spherical bearings or rod end bearings, are critical components in our shifters. By using larger wishbone bearings, the shifter is designed to withstand the substantial forces that arise during racing situations. These bearings allow for smooth movement and articulation of the shifter assembly, ensuring the driver can shift gears confidently and precisely, even under high-stress conditions.  
    • Stainless steel cable attachment pins for enhanced wear resistance. Stainless steel cable attachment pins offer increased durability and wear resistance compared to other materials. These pins are responsible for connecting the shifter mechanism to the transmission cables. Using stainless steel, the shifter is less prone to the effects of wear and corrosion over time, leading to a longer service life and maintaining consistent performance even in demanding racing environments.  
    • Complex carbon steel baseplate for weight reduction and rigidity. The incorporation of a complex carbon steel sheet metal baseplate serves the dual purpose of weight reduction and increased rigidity. Carbon steel is known for its strength-to-weight ratio, making it an ideal choice for structural components. The complexity of the baseplate's design includes strategically placed reinforcements and contours to achieve higher rigidity without adding unnecessary weight. This results in improved overall stability and a more direct transfer of shifting forces, ultimately enhancing the driver's control and feel.
